This part of my website should inspire either a wry smile, a chuckle, clenched teeth or a full on rant at your screen. It's just a light hearted (sometimes) or a real sincere (others) praising or bashing of well known people or things that I either love or hate.
See what you think, do you agree, or am I plain crazy ? - They are in no particular order by the way ;-)
So here goes :-
Hero : Roger Waters - The word genius is attached to far too many people in my view and I don't band this description around readily, but for this man, I think he has earned and is worthy of such an accolade. He has created copious amounts of the most fantastic music, to create and suit all sorts of moods. Either solo or gathered together in bands, Roger's music has been the source of, or been the accompaniment to some of my most treasured times and I can honestly say my life would have been poorer without his vast catalogue of brilliant work.
Villain : Michael Winner - What a horrible, obnoxious and pompous little fat f#ck. His talent, should he really have some, is considerably well hidden from my eyes and I just cannot see what he brings to anybodies life. Could quite happily punch his little smug face until my arm ached ... and some more !
Hero : Sean Goater - For those who might now be saying to themselves Sean who ? Sean Goater or The Goat as he was affectionately know to his adoring flock, was a football player (that's real proper football, not that poncey American rugby stuff, for any of you Yanks that might be tuning in) and he played for Manchester City. Why then a hero, well simply because he was just a nice guy, he was great at what he did, he scored goals basically and lots of them and he never became the big time Charlie that many of today's footballers seem to want to be. He came from the most humble of beginnings and never forgot such, he overcame lots of adversity to succeed in his profession and has put more back in to life than most do with his tireless work with under privileged kids back in his home town of Bermuda. One of life's good guys with a bota race only a mother could love, but when you fed the goat, he would score. Top man !
Villain : George Michael - What an over rated legend in his own lunch time. The Gary Neville equivalent of the pop world, ie he's been around for ages, been hugely successful, he's even highly commended by a few good men in their chosen professions strangely, but it's all a mystery to me as I just don't get it. He is far from rubbish, but he just isn't that good and I can't dig how he has achieved so much with so little. I even know women who think that he's gorgeous yet he has a boat that look like somebody has been breaking rocks on it, he's an enigma and when I see or hear him, I just think about the story of the Emperor and his new clothes, I can't be the only one who can see the guy for what he is, can I ?
Hero : Mrs Margaret Thatcher - This could possibly be the most controversial choice in my parade because with Mrs T, not unlike the Marmite, you either loved her or hated her. For this moment though, I ask you to forget any political allegiances and just consider what this lady put into this world. Her work was tireless, she took on big bad and ugly apples in the forms of outdated councils, militant and unworkable unions that really needed to be taken on and mashed up and much so much more. This lady gave me the inspiration to break free from my rather dour surroundings, the self belief that I could and should do so and for a short time, she even gave me a bit of pride to be English / British. Mrs T wasn't everybody's cup of tea that's for sure, but unlike Blair and many others like him, she really did believe in what she stood for no matter how easy or hard, popular or otherwise that it might have been and boy did she put a shift in during the course of her long and distinguished tenure. If you are still unconvinced, go read up on the girl and take an open mind, she was and still remains, a fine upstanding and very British lady.
Villain : Celebrities and celebrity shows - In this lot, you can lump in a right load of them, there will be too many to name but once you see the list, you will start to get the picture. So here goes, Jordan aka Katie Price, her ex boyfriends, can't remember their names, but one of them is full of sh#t, ugly and self important. Kerry Katona, everybody that was ever in Big Brother, Russell Brand, that fat star reader Russell somebody or other, the people of Britain's got X factor talent including and especially all the judges, Paris Hilton, Piers Morgan, Harry Hill, Alan Carr, Dawn French, Tara Parker Tomlinson, Matthew Kelly, Chris Evans, Eamonn Holmes, Fiona Phillips, Heather Mills, Amy Whinehouse,Pete Doherty, Vanessa Feltz. There are probably more and I may add to this list as we go, but wouldn't you just love to pull the plug on the ship that sailed that lot. Not only are most of them short of any real significant talent, but they all have experienced a modicum of success and have earned some good money at different times over the years. And when you add to that incredible injustice, their undoubted smug and horrible personalities and faces, it's easy to see why I could never get tired of thrashing these lot with the festering tail of a rabid camel.
Hero : Mick Jagger - Not everybody's cup of tea I guess but what a true star this guy is. He's a fabulous live entertainer, he's been at the top of the tree for half a century or so and he has managed to do it all from within the dynamic of a band that in itself boast some of the worlds biggest musical stars. At any stage Mick could have decided to continue to flog the same old same old, as many of the long standing so called super groups have, U2 for instance. He could have toured as a fat and unfit popstar just trading on his name and past, like Robbie Williams continues to do, but he hasn't and doesn't. Instead the guy works out like a mentalist to ensure he is at his peak when ready to perform, always absolutely on the ball with every detail of the gigs, the tours and the merchandising of the Worlds greatest Rock n Roll band. He has taken full control of the groups finance's to ensure that they were not ripped off like they were in their early years. He's educated, smart, charismatic and for a guy not so blessed with good lucks, he's done some beautiful women in his time. He has lived a rock n roll lifestyle, the women, the wine, the drugs, the parties and the music, yet he's also been a hugely successful business and family man, really a quite incredible guy and what a life lived !
Villain : Diego Maradona - Yes he was a very gifted and at times brilliant football player, but he was also hugely over rated, he was fat, he was a cheat and he was a druggie, so how can anybody put him anywhere in the top 100 players, never mind the top 3.
Hero : Muhammad Ali - Great man for every reason you can think of
Villain : Eric Cantona - Not unlike the fat argy, he was undoubtedly a talented player, but another prick and another cheat. I'm all for disrespecting laws at times, but this guy was just like a spoilt child at times. In fact the best thing he ever did in my view, is he helped give rise to the best ever newspaper headline, when he violently attacked a football fan at a match and the fan whacked him back. The headline read, `When the fan hits the shit` genius !
Hero : David Attenborough - Top man, dedicated beyond all conception and has single handedly been responsible for just about every interest I have ever had in wildlife, just a real top guy.
Villain : Millionaire Militants - Ok I may have used a little poetic licence with the millionaire bit, but the guys I'm talking about are the likes of Ken Livingstone, Arthur Scargill, Derek Hatton, George Gallway, John Prescott and their like. All pretending to be men of the people, all living in relative splendour in very none man of the people lifestyles. So full of sh#t that they couldn't really see it themselves,
Hero : The Queen - Regardless of your stance on the Royal family in general and on the type of state we seemingly chose to live in, you just gotta give to Her Maj. She is a lady whom has carried out her considerable duties for over 60 years with nothing but class, elegance, style and the ultimate in professionalism. A figurehead that we can all be immensely proud of and a lady that is worthy of all the plaudits she might get.
Villain : David & Victoria Beckham - She a pouting, sour faced, annoying and limitedly talented bird, he an above average footballer whose legend is just unbelievable. Would and does turn up at anything remotely geared up at propelling his status regardless of the shameless exploitation of others much less fortunate. His alleged patriotism you would think could be easily seen through, yet millions are fooled. He strikes me as the most shallow and over rated human being on the face of the earth.
Hero : Elvis - Ok so he ended up a banana, peanut butter and jello burger eating fatso, but what he gave to music when he was at his best more than makes up for the downsides of a true Rock n roll legend. He was after all the King of Rock n Roll
Villain : Diana Spencer - Princess my arse, never was good enough to join our Royal family in my view and she was indeed the most self publicising, self obsessed, shallow and deceitful tart ever to continuously grace our red tops. Masquerading as the peoples Princess, but all the time just on the look out to exploit any opportunity to further her own narcissistic lifestyle. When she famously asked to be left alone by the paps, they did as she asked. After 5 minutes of not reading about herself and being invited to the top parties, she soon changed her tack and became even more egotistic. Famous sayings of swords come to mind with this woman !
More may follow as time permits, but I hope you either strongly agreed or disagreed with some of my choices ;-)
